Wednesday PiQue: Shyness is not one of Todd’s problems

The latest Politically InQueerect is up on Tapastic! This is another of those situations were you learn something new about your characters when you color an old comic. Like, I don’t think either of them can possibly be happy with that mustard color on the walls, but Archer was adamant about only decorating with earth tones, and Todd’s just passive-aggressive enough to pick something awful on purpose. For the rest of the comic, though, he is definitely not passive in his aggressiveness.

In other news, I have a brand new comic in the works, a little autobio one-pager. I’m thinking I’ll probably post it this weekend, maybe? We’ll see how the ol’ schedule goes. It’s all penciled, just needs inks and colors. And I can’t decide if I want to try digitally coloring it, or just going with the ancient hand-coloring methods. File under Artist Problems (oh, I’ve got them).

Queer scientist-on-scientist action, starring Newton Geiszler and Hermann Gottleib

I don’t know what to tell you. There I was, minding my own business, when various unsavory artist friends on Twitter led me down the dark path of Newt/Hermann fan art. Just because I have a weakness for queer scientists and doing drawings of same. Here’s the relevant tumblr post.

Other than this sort of filth, I’ve mostly been working on character designs for my story for Beyond (and the epic fantastical science story those characters shall appear in after, and yes, there will be queer scientist-on-scientist action in that, too). I will post some of these arts eventually, but a lot of it is spoilery, so it’ll have to wait. Also, a couple of the characters were giving me design-related fits, and it’s taken awhile to nail them down. I think, though, I THINK I have it now. I’m just letting it percolate a bit before making it official.

The EXCITING CONCLUSION to the current PiQue storyline

Dee’s and Alicia’s hot chat session of non-stop processing comes to a close in the EXCITING CONCLUSION to our current Politically InQueerect storyline. Bonus points if you can spot the reference to the Austin club scene.

You want maybe to read the story from the beginning? I got yer link right here. Again, this version of the story differs rather a lot (at least as far as the text goes) from the old version hosted here. It’s better now, I think. But I dunno. I don’t expect to go back and rework anything that much ever again – better just to move on to new stuff. Not like I didn’t already know that, but here we are.

After this I think it’ll be back to one-pagers for a bit while I sort out what makes the most sense, chronologically speaking.

Your Wednesday PIQue fix

The penultimate page of the current Politically InQueerect storyline is up! Dee has her revenge, and moves on to her next target.

Check in later this week, when I’ll post a new cartoon I drew about Herman Melville’s unrequited love for Nathaniel Hawthorne. (Yes, this is a real thing that happened, but more on that later.)

Trying to think if there are any other goings on I need to tell you about. There’s stuff in progress for sure, I just don’t have much to say at the moment other than “in progress.” So! Anyway. See you in a couple of days for Melville/Hawthorne.

I completely forgot to mention, by the way, that there’s a new issue of Rocksalt out, and I have a comic in it. You can read it online. Or if you’re in the central Texas area you can snag a physical copy in lots of places around Austin and San Antonio and I don’t even know where else.

Thanks to everyone who backed the QU33R Kickstarter! We are funded and going to press, oh yes. I don’t know a release date yet, but once I do I will obvs let you know all about it.

I haven’t got much else for ya at the moment, though I’m hoping to have more funs on the ol’ site for next week. Funs as in more dirty pitchers of Cecil and Carlos, ahem, cough.

New PiQue, tumblings, QU33R, and Bent-Con

The latest Politically InQueerect is up on Tapastic. Now we get to find out what Dee’s high school experience was like. Guessing she read a lot of Sandman and listened to a lot of Siouxsie (no, wait, I don’t have to guess).

And, just in case you missed it, I started a new Tumblr blog for my queer comics and art stuff. Follow along if you’re into that sort of thing (and you are or you wouldn’t be here, right?).

Also also, the Kickstarter for QU33R has been successfully funded, but you still have a couple of days to pre-order your copy of the book and snag some of the fun extras. So get on that if you ain’t already.

Finally, I’m sorry to say I WON’T be making an official appearance at Bent-Con as I have a schedule conflict. Which is too bad, because it sounds like it’s going to be an awesome show. And it’s this weekend! So if you’re in SoCal, do make a point to check it out. As for me, I’ll be at Designer Con, which is right next door in Pasadena, CA. It’s an indie toy/design show, and I’ll be there representin’ the Feeps. Heck, go to both shows. Why not.

Yer weekly PIQue

Our tale of high school reminiscences soldiers on: Dee makes a joke to defuse a rather tense conversation, and is met with chat silence … DUN DUN DUN.

Also, just in case you missed it, I started a new tumblr for my comics and art stuffs. In addition to the sorts of things you’d read about here (new comics postings, show information, etc.), I’ll also be using the tumblr to post random art of mine like sketches and whatnot. AND, I will occasionally post examples from my collection of old, obscure, out-of-print comics of yore … things I think might be interesting or relevant to people who follow what I do.
