Doing the weekly update a bit early, as I am in the process of moving and chaos is ... well, it has already ensued, but will only increase as the week goes on. And so, best to get this up now, for it is the final page of PIQue #3:
- Politically InQueerect #3 page 36 storyboards
Finally, you can read the whole damn thing from start to finish. But, you ask, 2/3rds of the story are storyboards. When do we get the real art? The answer is "eventually." Obviously, I have to focus the bulk of my efforts on the book for the foreseeable future. Once that's done and done, though, I would really like to put together a PIQue compendium as a proper trade paperback. For such a volume I would obviously want issue #3 to be complete, and so I do indeed intend to finish the art all proper-like as soon as time permits.
In the meantime, I hope folks who mostly come here for the Political InQueerectness will stick around for book developments. My publisher is very keen on seeing me carry over the PIQue writing style to the book, so I hope it will be something you enjoy.
Cheers,
Dylan NDR

Here we are at the penultimate PIQue page:
- Politically InQueerect #3 page 35 storyboards
With any luck I'll be posting the final page next week, and then you'll have the whole story at long last. After that, it's gonna be all book, all the time, at least until such time as the book is done.
Cheers,
Dylan NDR

Working like mad on book stuff this week, so no new PIQue page. However, I will share with you a sample storyboard page from das boook:
- Cal's Story - page 6
Why oh why am I starting you out on page 6? Because the script is still in the draft stages, so the story isn't quite ready yet. These storyboards are mostly for my editor to see how things are coming along. I'm just showing you a page I think is pretty amusing on its own, whether it manages to stay this way or not.
Cheers,
Dylan NDR

First, go read this new PIQue storyboard page, then come back for some behind-the-scenes nerdery:
- Politically InQueerect #3 page 34 storyboards
Back yet? No? I'll wait.
Oh, hi. So! As originally written I had them waiting for a cab to show up, having completely forgotten that they had a rental car. I didn't notice the continuity error until after I'd drawn the page. Turned out to be a good thing, since it gave me an excuse to get Todd out of there. He's not really part of the conversation, but I didn't want anyone to have space to pay attention to what's happening on the TV. So there. A happy accident of sorts, and certainly something it's better to pick up on at this stage rather than after the page is fully drawn and lettered and everything.
Cheers,
Dylan NDR

Gosh, but I have been productive this week. In addition to finishing and launching the redesign of the the Feeping Creatures website, I also have for you a new page of PIQue #3 storyboardery:
- Politically InQueerect #3 page 33 storyboards
I'll try to have page 34 for next week, but I gots some big work to do on the book, so I dunno. We shall see.
Cheers,
Dylan NDR
Announcements for 5/22/09
So! I have been very busy redesigning the Feeping Creatures website, and as such haven't had time to put together a new PIQue storyboard. However, the feep site is inches away from done, and I expect to launch v.3.0 next week. In prepping for it, I ran across this one-page fake ad I did for an anthology that never got off the ground:
- My Little Earwig
My cat is yowling. Why? I know not. Probably there are particles of dust that taunt her delicate sensibilities.

Imagine, if you will, another page of PIQue #3 storyboard:
- Politically InQueerect #3 page 32 storyboards
Four pages. Four pages to go! We're this close to the zombie space-giraffe invasion plot twist, which you will not be expecting, and which will be a total and complete surprise!
In other news, tomorrow (May 16) I'll be vending my wares at Zine Fest Houston, which is in Houston, and it's a fest for zines. If'n you be in Hooston, you mought come, yes? It is free for to be admitted! DOOO IIITTT.

Oh my heavens, can it be? Can it be??? A new PIQue storyboard:
- Politically InQueerect #3 page 31 storyboards
"Fine," you say. "Good. Whatever. But where is that last character design you promised us?? EH??"
Well, so. The deal there is that I had a very long conversation with my editor yesterday, and a very productive one, but I need to let the fruits of our discussion ... uh ... percolate ... into some kind of drip smoothie? I guess? Or maybe I just need to stop abusing metaphors with such wild abandon! So anyway, I decided to hold off on any further book postings for the nonce, and to work on finishing up PIQue instead while ... you know, the percolating smoothie action does its thing.
In other gnus, you might be interested to read this article for OutSmart Magazine for which I was interviewed. And I do indeed plan to be at Zine Fest Houston, which is next weekend (!), so also read the article for more details on the fest.

For you this week I present the penultimate profile of characters what are of from the booook:
- Character page for "James"
So, next week will (presumably) be the last of the profiles. After that what? A good question. In an ideal world, I'd finish up the storyvoards for PIQue #3. However, I'm still grinding through the update for the feep website, and need to get that off my plate ASAP.
I have a phone meeting with my editor next week to discuss draft revisions, so hopefully in the very near future I can start sharing some of the storyboards from the book. We shall see what transpires.
Cheers,
Dylan NDR

I return, and I bring you ... more character designs! Behold "Cal":
- Character page for "Cal"
I am currently embroiled with a complete redesign of the Feeping Creatures site, so that's taking up most of my spare time right now. Hopefully it'll be done in the next two weeks.
Cheers,
Dylan NDR

More character designs, for all five of you process junkies out there. This week 'tis "Henry":
- Character page for "Henry"
Four down, four to go. I'll try to post something next week, but I am not at all certain it'll happen. I am going out of town, you see, and that tends to wreak havoc upon one's schedule. We'll see. And yes, eventually I'll finish up the story for PIQue #3. Honest.
Cheers,
Dylan NDR
Announcements for 3/20/09
Woo, and furthermore, hoo. For I have now got approval on the character designs for all of the participants in the book. This week I bring you "Blake":
- Character page for "Blake"
Sorry for the paucity of biographical information. I am on a big ol' deadline burn for other stuff and my brain is completely fried. Things like "sentences" and "spelling" are proving challenging to me right now.
Cheers,
Dylan NDR
Announcements for 3/13/09
Still truckin' along with character designs for the book. At this point I've got approval from their real-life counterparts on about half of them, with the other half still pending or going through revisions. So, the next one on the list of All Done is "Avery":
- Character page for "Avery"
Thanks, by the way, to everyone who came to STAPLE! last weekend. It was an awesome show and it was great to get to chat with alla youse.
Next week there will be more stuff of some sort. Now, I gotta go get a new battery for my smoke detector, which is currently chirping at me in a very loud and annoying fashion.

I'm back in town but under a major time cruch since I have a show tomorrow (about which more in a minute) and I lost a day due to travel delays. But I do have a couple more character designs to share, which I have added to the existing page for "Adam":
- Character page for "Adam"
Now, as to that show. Tomorrow is STAPLE! ye olde Independent Media Expo. I will, of course, have a tableful of feeps, whatever issues of my comics I have left in stock (Enderstated #1 is almost sold out, as is Politically InQueerect #1), original art, and so forth. I'll also be bringing my proofs for PIQue #3 if you want to see it at better-than-web resolution, and the originals for my editorial cartoons, which are for sale. You should totally come by and check it out. only $5 admission!
Cheers,
Dylan NDR
Announcements for 2/20/09
And the winner is: character designs! I'm slowly getting these approved by the various participants, and the first one back with an OK is "Adam":
- Character page for "Adam"
I'll be posting more of these as I hear back from people, and adding info on characters as other material gets approved, so keep yer eyeballs open for that. I do still mean to finish up the storyboards for PIQue #3, I've just been overwhelmed with other stuff that has to take priority.
On that note, there most likely won't be an update next week, as I will be out of town. So! See you again in March.

This week I have for you one more new Anti-Valentine's Day card. Lucky you! (Get it? Lucky? Friday the 13th? Eh? Ahhh, never mind.)
- Your Cynicism is Justified
So yes. Next week it's back to something or other. Not exactly sure what, just yet. It shall depend upon the various deadlines 'twixt now and then, and how quickly they get resolved. Possibilities include a new PIQue storyboard page, a dumb panel cartoon, or character sketches from das book. We shall see!
Cheers,
Dylan NDR
Announcements for 2/6/09
A week out from my least favorite holiday and it's time to dip into that well of bitterness, I should think. So, a new Anti-Valentine's Day card:
- Bitter Tears
I guess anyone who thinks scare quotes mean the same thing as an underline won't find this card to be all that funny, but surely anyone reading this site is too much of an intellectual elitist snob to make that kind of mistake! I heart intellectual elitist snobs. And that's a sincere statement!
Cheers,
Dylan NDR
Announcements for 1/30/09
I know I said something about storyboards for das book, but I have been overwhelmed this week by working on the main script (as well as on other deadlines) and just haven't had time to do any storyboarding. Apologies. Instead, I give you sketchbookery:
- Bat Sketches
- Magic Emo
In theory I'll be spending a lot of time over the next couple of weeks working on character designs for the book. I hope that I can also get some more PIQue storybards done, but it's hard to say. I've also got some new anti-valentines I want to draw and post, as well as a random cartoon just for the fun of it. There's just a lot going on right now, so the future is a murky cloud of uncertainty!
Cheers,
Dylan NDR
Announcements for 1/23/09
So here's the deal: I have to turn in a draft of my book to my editor at the end of the month, so I am spending pretty much all of my creative enery on that right now. This means no PIQue storyboards for the next couple of weeks. In the meantime, I give you this odd little piece:
- Todd Yawning
As to what on earth this is: at one point as I was prepping a couple of pages of PIQue #3 for an anthology, I happened to have the marqueed outline of Todd yawning from Page 3 set against a white background. I thought it looked kind of cool, so I screengrabbed it. It was not until later that I realized what one might think he was up to if one takes this image entirely out of context. This new interpretation was so amusing I couldn't not share it. Laffs aplenty.
Next week I'll see about maybe posting a couple of storyboard pages from das book.
Cheers,
Dylan NDR

Sorry for not updating yesterday. The art on this one took a lot longer than I expected, and that's even with the massive cheating I indulged in. Nevertheless, may I present the Final Outfield:
- The Outfield #75
As, I mentioned last week, I'm retiring the Outfield for the time being in an effort to reduce my cartooning obligations while I'm working on the book. Better to work on fewer things and have them be good rather than more things and have them feel rushed and half-baked. (Hooray for cut and paste.) So! There you have it.
Cheers,
Dylan NDR

And it is the time for more PIQue storyboard action:
- Politically InQueerect #3 page 30 storyboards
Six more pages to go! Not to spoilerize anything, but I think you'll be really surprised when the zombie giraffes from outer space show up. I mean, you will totally not be expecting it, and then, BAM! There they are!
In the meanwhile, I should have the final Outfield cartoon up next week. Yes, I said "final." I don't remember if I made mention of that here or not, but I'm retiring the Outfield for the time being in an effort to reduce my cartooning obligations while I'm working on the book. Better to work on fewer things and have them be good rather than more things and have them feel rushed and half-baked. Ya know?
Cheers,
Dylan NDR
Announcements for 1/2/09
And a very happy new year to you. I, of course, started it out with a massive hangover (how on earth that happened I couldn't say), so my productivity has been off this week. And so, it's sketchbook time:
- Polite Zombie
- Goose Demon
I hope to return to actual cartooning next week.
Cheers,
Dylan NDR

Ho ho ho, Harpy Honeycaw and Murray Crispness. Since you have undoubtedly been bad, you get a new PIQue storyboard page for Boxing Day and/or the 5th day of Hanukkah:
- Politically InQueerect #3 page 29 storyboards
Make sure to read the note at the bottom of the page.

What's this? A new PIQue page, posted on time and early in the day? Am I trying to bring about the apocalypse?
- Politically InQueerect #3 page 28 storyboards
So: 8 pages left to go. After that I will likely start posting exerpts of the work-in-progress that is my book about queer FTMs, as I should have a pile of storyboards ready by then.
Ah, but will I have anything for next week, what with the xmas holidays and all? Maybe. Possibly. Hopefully. Though I am not 100% sure, so I guess we'll find out when we get there.
Cheers,
Dylan NDR
Announcements for 12/12/08
Sorry for the paucity of updates lately. Obviously the Thanksgiving holiday kept me preoccupied, and this past weekend was the Wheatsville Arts Festival, which sort of snuck up on me and sent me into Show Prep Overdrive. And then there was the nasty snarl of deadlines caused by one of those "You meant THIS Thursday?" moments. Anyway. At long last I have for you the latest PIQue storyboard installment:
- Politically InQueerect #3 page 27 storyboards
I'm hoping next week will be somewhat less chaotic, and I'll actually be able to finish up this story in a somewhat timely manner.
Cheers,
Dylan NDR
Announcements for 11/21/08
It took forever, but here is yer new Outfield:
- The Outfield #74
This took an insanely long time to draw, especially given that you'll probably spend all of five seconds parsing it, so I ask that you take a moment to appreciate the pile of bodies and what a pain it must have been to compose. Hell, you can even play Spot the Mistake if you like. There are tons! Stupid helmets.
Unlikely that I'll post next week due to the holidays, but after that I predict more PIQue.
Cheers,
Dylan NDR
Announcements for 11/15/08
Sorry for completely flaking out on posting yesterday. I'm still not going to have the new Outfield cartoon ready until next week, but I figured I could at least round up a couple of sketches to post:
- Mouse 'Tache
- Moonshine Werewolf
With any luck things will become less hectic as the holidays progress, though I sort of doubt it. Busy seems to be the order of the season.
Cheers,
Dylan NDR
Announcements for 11/14/08
There's just no way I'm going to get an update in today. I am completely and utterly buried under deadlines. Apologies for the lameness with extra lame. Should have Outfield ready for next week, which will hopefully suck less than this week.
Cheers,
Dylan NDR
Announcements for 11/7/08
Well, how about that - a new PIQue page:
- Politically InQueerect #3 page 26 storyboards
Thus begins the home stretch on PIQue #3. Which means, of course, that next week I'm due for an Outfield cartoon. But I do want to get PIQue finished up, so with any luck my other deadlines will be conducive to getting through the rather panel-heavy next few pages.
Cheers,
Dylan NDR

Argh. I have been crushed under the weight of deadlines this week, and I'm tired, and I'm cranky. So here's a bunch of art:
- Flying Monkey
- Carnivorous Tree
- Bashful Tiger
- Insomnia
- 50 Foot Monster
Tired. Cranky! Off to do something energizing and de-crankifying for Halloween.
Cheers,
Dylan NDR
Announcements for 10/24/08
Still no PIQue. Sorry. My insomnia has been acting up, and the next page is fairly involved (lots of figures, lots of dialogue, lots of panels), and I've just been too busy and too tired to work on it. Whine, whine, whine. Instead, I present a sketch and a retooled sea serpent:
- Zombie Guy
- Sea Serpent 04 revisited
Basically, as far as the sea serpent goes, I decided I really just didn't like the way the coolors had turned out, so I completely recolored it. It now has these neat metallic/pearlescent inks that don't show up at all in the scan, and I added a watercolor background, the only sea serpent print to have a background. I spent forever on it, so it's more expensive than the others, but did I mention metallic inks? IT IS SHINY. SHIIINYYYYYY.
Okay, I gotta go take a nap or something. Next: maybe PIQue. Or maybe a drawing of a ghost and a sexy librarian guy making out. We shall see what happens.
Cheers,
Dylan NDR

For you, an Outfield:
- The Outfield #73
No, I really don't know what's up with the perpective. It's, um, all artistically off and stuff, yeah, that's the ticket.
As for me, my brain be's fried, so there you have it.
Cheers,
Dylan NDR

No PIQue this week. The last page I posted was essentially the end of Chapter 2 (inasmuch as issue #3 is divided into chapters). So I'm taking a wee break from it to go work on some other stuff. Namely hot undead guys:
- Emo Ghost Guy
He started out as a random sketch I was doodling during a D&D session (FEEL THE NERDITY), but I decided he was worth following through on, so here he is in his fully-inked glory. And yes, I went all out and made him glow in the dark, because why the fuck not. Hopefully I'll get around to getting a pic of him in his glowing state so I can post it.
At any rate. Next up I'm on the hook for a new Outfield cartoon, and after that I'll probably get back to the PIQue storyboards.

More PIQue storyboard high-falutin' action:
- Politically InQueerect #3 page 24 storyboards
This page was going to be one of the ones to have really detailed backgrounds drawn from photos of my last excursion to Shrewsbury in 1998. I am sad about not really getting to do justice to what I had in mind, but such is the way of things. I don't even typically like drawing architecture, but Shrewsbury has a ton of original Tudor houses (as well as Victorian-era reproductions), so it have a very unique character. Also, their castle is red. Red, I tell you!
In art show news, I am indeed going to be in a group show at Amy's Ice Cream on 6th street here in Austin. The show runs Oct. 2 - 31, with an "opening" reception on Oct. 23. The theme is Halloween, so look for all sorts of spooky fun!

It's Outfieldin' time:
- The Outfield #72
Because I haven't been paying attention, I did not realize until researching the logos and colors of Tampa Bay's baseball team that they're no longer the "Devil Rays," just the plain ol' "Rays." And their mascot is no longer a sea creature but a beam of light. I would be inclined to suppose that superstitious types were unhappy with the "Devil" association and preferred something more Jesusy, and probably these same people will credit the Rays' impressive season with the name change. And yet, it is obvious that they must have been sacrificing chickens to Satan this whole time. Ironical! (I am, of course, speculating wildly in re: the religious angle, so please bear in mind I may be completely full of shit. Except about the sacrificing to Satan part. That bit is clearly true.)
At any rate, if you're one of the people who tracks this site but doesn't track sports, this Outfield will be extra meaningless to you, but you may nevertheless enjoy its NSFWness.

It is time for PIQue:
- Politically InQueerect #3 page 23 storyboards
This page makes me laugh at my own jokes. I hope this isn't one of those things where the artist is the only person who is amused by it.
Next week for you I shall have a new Outfield. Also, depending on my productivity level, possibly another Hot Goth Guy drawing. I started sketching a ghostly fellow last night just for fun but now feel compelled to turn him into a finished piece. Which is fine, as I'll be in the upcoming Halloween Art Show at Amy's Ice Cream on 6th street (I assume; unless the show is in a different place this year, but I don't think so), and a drawing of a dead guy would be entirely appropriate for that. Don't know yet when the reception's going to be, but I shall be sure to post about it here when I do.

I have a couple of things for you today: a new PIQue #3 storyboard page and a little sketch I've added to the Hot Gay Nerds section:
- Politically InQueerect #3 page 21 storyboards
- Victorian Vampire
The Vampy guy, as you will learn when you click through, was featured in a dream I had recently. I'd like to do a more finished drawing someday, because the way in which he was scary and intimidating was (apart from the teeth) very subtle. The sketch doesn't quite capture it, but you get the gist, anyway.

I did not lie! It is a new The Outfield for you:
- The Outfield #71
Honestly, this is much more like one of my old editorial cartoons than a typical Outfield, but I couldn't let GenderLab go by without comment.
Next week I'm thinkin' we're back to the PIQue storyboards, yeah? And when I say "we" I mean "me." For some reason a lot of people seem to think there is more than one of me, given how often I'm referred to as "you guys." Split personality jokes aside, I am but a single entity. It's true!

- Politically InQueerect #3 page 19 storyboards
A few pages ago, I mentioned Yorkshire pudding as a dessert, which, of course, it is not. It's a savory bread product. I just misremembered it. So I'm currently pondering replacement desserts that are quintessentially English. Some possibilities include trifle, treacle tart, and queen of puddings. We'll see what sticks, as it were.

And the winnah is - The Outfield:
- The Outfield #70
This won't likely mean much to you, but the color for the track was mixed starting with alizarin crimson, which, in its unaltered state, looks exactly like blood. I mean EXACTLY like blood. So if you ever need to paint realistic-looking blood, you want alizarin crimson. It's especially fun if you're a total slob like me and get it all over your hands while you're working. Try it sometime!

As I mentioned last week, I'm going to be posting the storyboards for Politically InQueerect #3 so you can finally read the rest of that story, even if you don't get the full art.
- Politically InQueerect #3 page 13 storyboards
Interestingly, it's been almost exactly a year since I last posted anything from that story (sigh), so you may wish to refresh your memory as to what is going on.
In other news that may be of interest, I have decided the internet needs more pictures of hot nerdy queers, so I set up a section on my site for that. Most of the drawings are things I've posted previously and can be found elsewhere on the site, but for the Hot Gay Nerds section I've added a bit of info as to why each fellow is nerdtastic. There is one new guy up, so check him out first:
- 4e Mage
I believe I owe you an Outfield for next week. Though it might get bumped to the week after, in which case I'll post another page of PIQue #3 storyboards.
Cheers,
Dylan NDR
