QAT Person: Autobio comics about being Queer, Asexual, and Trans

Yikes, ECCC is kicking off in just over a week! It’ll go from April 7-10, 2016.

I’ll be tabling with Northwest Press at booth 1227 all weekend, so that’s where you should head to find my books and my new minicomics.

Wait, what? New minicomics? Yes indeed! I’ll have copies of QAT Person, a collection of autobio comics about being Queer, Asexual, and Trans. Also copies of the Ugly Little Beast, but I haven’t prepped the cover image for web yet (sad trombone etc.).

I’ll be reading from QAT Person at the Queercopia panel on Saturday, 2:45-3:45, room T305. And don’t forget the Queer Comics for Kids and Teens panel on Sunday from 1:15-2:15, also in room T305.

Meanwhile, inking proceeds apace on chapter 6 of Valley of the Silk Sky. Realistic start date is April 20, fantasy I Got Stuff Done Faster Than I Thought start date is April 13. But this chapter has a lot of detailed environments, so I’m not holding my breath for coloring to go quickly. Should hopefully be pretty to look at when it’s done, though!

Anyhow, see you soon, whether at the convention or online.

Cheers,

Dylan

First up, new page of Valley of the Silk Sky! In which we learn that Hali is prone to overexplaining things out of nervousness. Read it:

Hali’s dialogue includes a string of Daraz script. If you want to nerd out about the Daraz writing system, might I recommend this blog post over on the Vally of the Silk Sky website.

If you DON’T want to nerd out about it, well, fine. Whatever. Be that way.

Nerd out about this instead:

queer comics sale Northwest Press

Northwest Press is having a 40% off sale through December 7, which means you can get a big ol’ pile of queer comics for cheap! That includes my books Transposes and Politically InQueerect, and of course QU33R, the Ignatz Award-winning anthology I’m in.

And if you already have all those? Well, good on ya, first of all. But there’s a ton of other new and awesome things to grab, and now is a great time to do it. Might I recommend the complete Ethan Green collection?

ALPHABET queer comics anthology

Finally, don’t forget to back the ALPHABET Kickstarter, and help bring even more queer comics into the world. I have a new piece in this book, as does Eric Orner (author of the aforementioned Ethan Green), as well as a ton of other great creators: Melanie Gillman, Ed Luce, Dax Tran-Caffee, Ajuan Mance, Robert Kirby, Jennifer Camper, and more.

One of the things I really like about this book is how it showcases both established creators and new faces. Guaranteed you’ll find a new artist in here whose work you’ll enjoy. There’s a good mix of trans and asexual creators as well, and several bisexual/pansexual folks, and several people of color. So really, a wide range of representation, and a very worthy collection of comics.

Cheers,

Dylan

VoSS page 27 features lots of people being surprised about various things. What are they surprised about? Find out here:

So THAT’S probably fine, right? I’m sure everything will be fine.

And yes, more coverage of the SDCC Writing Transgender Characters panel trickles in, this time with an article on Comic Book Resources. Props for not going with a Caitlyn Jenner headline (srsly, trans people existed before Cait, cis media).

Finally, my publisher, Northwest Press, is having a summer sale! Observe these deets:

queer comics politically inqueerect transposes

The Politically InQueerect: Old Ghosts printed comic book has been spotted in the wild! Northwest Press is at PAX East this weekend and has copies available for sale, so go grab one if you’re there.

If you’re NOT there, don’t worry. You can buy it online from NWP, and it should be in comic shops shortly if you preordered through Diamond.

As you may have noticed, I haven’t put out a new Taxonomically Unbound comic in awhile. That’s because I’ve been working like mad to get the Valley of the Silk Sky minicomic done before Emerald City Comic Con at the end of the month.

Speaking of which:

It’s at the printer right now being reviewed, so I haven’t approved any proofs yet, but it should be enough time to get this thing turned around for ECCC and HavenCon.

Anyway, I do hope to have more Taxo Unbo soon. I certainly have a backlog of material, just gotta work it into cartoon form. Soon. SOON!

Cheers,

Dylan

Politically InQueerect Old Ghosts final cover

It’s pre-orderin’ time! Yes, indeed, the Northwest Press print edition of Politically InQueerect: Old Ghosts is now open for preorder via Diamond Previews. From the NWP blurb:

In this all-new tale, Todd joins Archer and his mother on a journey to England to help Archer’s grandmother move. Gran is adamant that her old house is haunted, Archer is adamant that it isn’t. Will Archer’s skepticism lead to his peril, or is Gran amusing herself with a huge wind-up? Includes a selection of choice PiQue strips from the comic’s 14-year run!

Politically InQueerect: Old Ghosts — 48 pages, $7.99, full color comic book.
Use Diamond item code NOV141558.

As you may know, pre-orders help enormously with a book’s success, so please ask your comics retailer to reserve a copy for you (or, if you ARE a comics retailer, order a bunch now!).

And, because the excitement doesn’t end, here’s a new Taxonomically Unbound for ya. You can read it here on Tapastic, or here on Studio NDR.

This one is titled Pasta Point of No Return, and involves EXCITING MATH JOKES. Does the internet have enough math joke comics? I submit to you that it does not.

I have more stuff to talk about, but we can save it for later. But rest assured, MORE NEWS IS IMMINENT.

Cheers,

Dylan

Politically InQueerect Archer

Page 1 of the brand new PiQue story “Old Ghosts” is now up on Tapastic, and here at home. Todd, Archer, and Archer’s mother Clara embark on a journey to Shrewsbury, England, to assist Archer’s grandmother in moving to a newer, smaller house. In this case, “newer” simply means “less than 500 years old.” Todd is game. Clara is resigned. Archer … might be about to complain a bit? Nah.

There’s only the one page at the moment, but ultimately this is where you’ll go to read the story in progress. At 36 pages, published one page a week, I’m sure there’ll come a time when you’ll want to review what has come before.

As of right now I have 8 pages completely finished, so that’s two months of updates in the can.

Also of possible interest to you queer comics readers: my publisher, Northwest Press, is having a 20% Off sale right this very now. A great chance to stock up on some excellent queer graphic novels, no?
