Politically InQueerect Todd

The latest remastered-in-color Politically InQueerect is up on Tapastic. Sometimes you just should not let others make your travel arrangements for you. Especially when that person is a notorious cheapskate.

I’ve got a stack of new comics projects in the queue, though I’m not exactly certain when what will show up where. My plan is really definitely seriously to finish the long Politically InQueerect story I started long ago. I have 12 out of 36 pages already drawn and inked, they just need to be colored. So my goal is to get crackin’ on that, maybe even later today, and have enough of a head start in the queue that I can keep it running weekly even if I get interrupted for other things.

Those other things mostly being my story for Beyond. Because of deadlines, that’ll have to take top priority once the editors are done editing at it.

ghost librarian and hot gay scientist

If you follow me on Tumblr you may have seen a recent post about a ghost story I just wrote. The script is basically finished now, just needs to marinate for a bit. The character designs have shifted slightly from those in the post, though it’s strictly cosmetic. I decided the story is officially set in 1948, with our ghost protagonist maintaining a 1930s appearance, so I had to tweak the hair and clothing styles to be more period-accurate. That means no sideburns, I’m sorry to say, but it’s made up for by fucking awesome suits.

Anyway, THAT story is next in the queue after PiQue and Beyond, and I’m terribly excited about it, so look for it hopefully in the latter half of 2014.

Cheers,

Dylan

Politically InQueerect Archer grumpy face

Another remastered Politically InQueerect cartoon is posted for you on Tapastic. I think this one more or less tells you everything you need to know about these two.

Bonus fun fact: I originally created this as a small set of submissions to the New Yorker, which means somewhere or other I have a rejection letter from the New Yorker.

I’m not even sure people talk about A and B personality types anymore, but it was kind of a thing for awhile.

Cheers,

Dylan

Politically InQueerect Todd Archer kink

The latest Politically InQueerect is up on Tapastic! This is another of those situations were you learn something new about your characters when you color an old comic. Like, I don’t think either of them can possibly be happy with that mustard color on the walls, but Archer was adamant about only decorating with earth tones, and Todd’s just passive-aggressive enough to pick something awful on purpose. For the rest of the comic, though, he is definitely not passive in his aggressiveness.

In other news, I have a brand new comic in the works, a little autobio one-pager. I’m thinking I’ll probably post it this weekend, maybe? We’ll see how the ol’ schedule goes. It’s all penciled, just needs inks and colors. And I can’t decide if I want to try digitally coloring it, or just going with the ancient hand-coloring methods. File under Artist Problems (oh, I’ve got them).

Cheers,

Dylan

The EXCITING CONCLUSION to the current PiQue storyline

Roy Rectal and the Screaming Reamers

Dee’s and Alicia’s hot chat session of non-stop processing comes to a close in the EXCITING CONCLUSION to our current Politically InQueerect storyline. Bonus points if you can spot the reference to the Austin club scene.

You want maybe to read the story from the beginning? I got yer link right here. Again, this version of the story differs rather a lot (at least as far as the text goes) from the old version hosted here. It’s better now, I think. But I dunno. I don’t expect to go back and rework anything that much ever again – better just to move on to new stuff. Not like I didn’t already know that, but here we are.

After this I think it’ll be back to one-pagers for a bit while I sort out what makes the most sense, chronologically speaking.

Cheers,

Dylan

Politically InQueerect Dee

The penultimate page of the current Politically InQueerect storyline is up! Dee has her revenge, and moves on to her next target.

Check in later this week, when I’ll post a new cartoon I drew about Herman Melville’s unrequited love for Nathaniel Hawthorne. (Yes, this is a real thing that happened, but more on that later.)

Trying to think if there are any other goings on I need to tell you about. There’s stuff in progress for sure, I just don’t have much to say at the moment other than “in progress.” So! Anyway. See you in a couple of days for Melville/Hawthorne.

Cheers,

Dylan

Politically InQueerect Dee

The latest page of Politically InQueerect is up on Tapastic. Turns out, Dee is not interested in putting up with anyone’s bullshit.

Thanks to everyone who backed the QU33R Kickstarter! We are funded and going to press, oh yes. I don’t know a release date yet, but once I do I will obvs let you know all about it.

I haven’t got much else for ya at the moment, though I’m hoping to have more funs on the ol’ site for next week. Funs as in more dirty pitchers of Cecil and Carlos, ahem, cough.

Cheers,

Dylan

Politically InQueerect Dee

The latest Politically InQueerect is up on Tapastic. Now we get to find out what Dee’s high school experience was like. Guessing she read a lot of Sandman and listened to a lot of Siouxsie (no, wait, I don’t have to guess).

And, just in case you missed it, I started a new Tumblr blog for my queer comics and art stuff. Follow along if you’re into that sort of thing (and you are or you wouldn’t be here, right?).

Also also, the Kickstarter for QU33R has been successfully funded, but you still have a couple of days to pre-order your copy of the book and snag some of the fun extras. So get on that if you ain’t already.

Finally, I’m sorry to say I WON’T be making an official appearance at Bent-Con as I have a schedule conflict. Which is too bad, because it sounds like it’s going to be an awesome show. And it’s this weekend! So if you’re in SoCal, do make a point to check it out. As for me, I’ll be at Designer Con, which is right next door in Pasadena, CA. It’s an indie toy/design show, and I’ll be there representin’ the Feeps. Heck, go to both shows. Why not.

Cheers,

Dylan

Politically InQueerect Dee

Our tale of high school reminiscences soldiers on: Dee makes a joke to defuse a rather tense conversation, and is met with chat silence … DUN DUN DUN.

Also, just in case you missed it, I started a new tumblr for my comics and art stuffs. In addition to the sorts of things you’d read about here (new comics postings, show information, etc.), I’ll also be using the tumblr to post random art of mine like sketches and whatnot. AND, I will occasionally post examples from my collection of old, obscure, out-of-print comics of yore … things I think might be interesting or relevant to people who follow what I do.

Cheers,

Dylan

Politically InQueerect Alicia

The latest PiQue is up on Tapastic right this very now. Dee and Alicia’s chat session continues along, and makes some turns down some dark paths.

The dialogue on this page is extensively reworked from the original (I think, I hope, for the better). So even if you’ve read it before, go read it through again. I mean, if you want to. I’m certainly not the boss of you.

Dylan Edwards Beyond Tola character design

I’m getting closer and closer to having all the preliminary character designs for my story for Beyond done. (I say preliminary, because once the actual drawing starts things tend to drift and adapt as necessary.) Anyway, this is a Tola. They are a hominin species indigenous to the Valley where this story takes place (humans, by the way, are NOT indigenous to the Valley – li’l invasive species).

So, like, here on Earth you got yer humans and you got yer apes, and somewhere in between we had for awhile a few different hominin species wandering around. But none of ’em made it to the present day except for us. Well, in my little fantastical science world, we all got separated long enough for some of those other hominin species to establish successful branches of the ol’ evolutionary tree (mind you, not necessarily based on any actual Earth hominin). The Tolas are one of those species.

They’re just as smart as humans, but their different adaptations lead them to express that intelligence differently (like, for instance, no clothes, because why do you need clothes when you’ve got all that fur?).

This character design is not 100% of where I want it to be, but it’s getting very close. EVOLVING, if you will, ha ha.

Cheers,

Dylan

Politically InQueerect Alicia

Page 2 of the Dee/Alicia storyline is now up on Tapastic. Thus begins the bit of this story I’ve reworked most extensively, updating the art to reflect more current trends in chat design, and altering the text rather a lot. The original version shall remain here on Studio NDR for the time being. You can go compare ’em and decide for yourself if I’m Lucasizing this story.

Dylan Edwards Beyond Anthology character design AmihanIn the realm of new stuff, I’m currently drawing my way through the billionty character designs I need to work up for my story for the queer sf/fantasy anthology Beyond. The script is in its second draft and is just about ready for storyboarding, I think.

I’m hoping to get a section set up here on Studio NDR to collect the various bits and pieces of my work in progress for Beyond. I cannot, obviously, show you the story itself, as it’s exclusive to the book. But there’s a lot of concept art and backstory that goes into creating a sci-fantasy world, and I think it’d be cool to have that sort of stuff here for people who are process junkies. I’m also posting stuff to Twitter from time to time (@DylanNDREdwards), so follow along if’n ye wish.

First, though, I gotta come up with a name for my story/world besides the current inadequate working title. For some reason, coming up with names is a huge chore for me. So. Gimme a minute or three to get this rolling.

Cheers,

Dylan
