WisCon went really, really well! I’m super happy about it and will definitely be making plans to attend next year.

Next up is Denver Comic Con and Denver Pride (both the same weekend! Ha ha!), and then Denver Zine Fest the weekend after that. You can find all the details on my Appearances page, but I’ll give some further particulars as the dates approach.

But yes, I’m splitting my time between Denver Comic Con and Denver Pride. Not sure yet which specific hours and days I’ll be where, but once it’s sorted I’ll post about it.

I’m experimenting with a new way of saving large image files, so this page SHOULD load much faster than previous pages. The question now is whether I go back and re-save and re-upload ALLLLLL previous 57 pages. Hah. Heh. Oh my.

But it ain’t gonna happen this week because WisCon!

Yes, indeed, I am vending and paneling in Madison, WI this long weekend, Friday through Monday. I believe this is my first midwest show, as it happens. Speaking of which … okay, not actually really, but ANYWAY. I mentioned previously that I was going to make a POD print book of Valley of the Silk Sky Part One, and lo I have done this thing.

Right at this moment I’m hoarding them for my May shows, of which there are three:

May 7: Free Comic Book Day at Mutiny Comics in Denver
May 14-15: Toronto Comic Arts Festival (TCAF) with Northwest Press
May 27-30: WisCon in Madison, WI

If I have any left after all that I will make them available for sale online in some fashion. If I DON’T have any left after all that, I’ll get ’em reprinted. So it WILL happen, it’s just a matter of when.

If you are ABSOLUTELY DESPERATE to have one RIGHT NOW, I’d suggest going to one of those shows, or tackling someone who is going to one of those shows and thrusting $15 into their hands.

Valley of the Silk Sky page 52 closes out Chapter 5, and Part One

NOW WHAT, you wonder.

Next up, I’ll be releasing a digital edition of Part One so you can read it offline. If you are one of my Patrons, this eBook PDF version will be made available for you to download later this week. Otherwise, I’ll have it up for sale on Gumroad for $5.99. (Official release date is March 2.)

The book has also been accepted by ComiXology for their Submit program. So if you’re a ComiXology user, you will be able to buy a Guided View edition of Valley of the Silk Sky Part One, also for $5.99.

I’ll go into the details of the benefits of the eBook edition once it’s available for your purchasing pleasure. TL;DR: the art looks nicer and your $$ helps me keep doing this comics thing.

Okay, yes, but what about Chapter 6? What of Part Two, you ask?

Chapter 6 is in progress right now, though it’s not nearly as far along as I wanted it to be. Unfortunately, personal life stuff intervened (and by “personal life stuff,” I actually mean, “flying out of town twice to two different states in less than a month to visit relatives in hospice”). So it’s one of those situations where there was nothing much to do about it but accept that there was going to be a big delay.

So but I’m penciling now, and am hoping maybe to get Chapter 6 up and running by April. In the interim, I’ll be posting a lot of work-in-progress stuff to my Patreon for $1+ subscribers, and there’s a couple more world-building posts in the pipeline that I’ll be putting up on the Valley of the Silk Sky website.

Anyhow. Check back next week for an announcement about the PDF book!

In other VoSS news, the digital book for Part One nears completion. All the art is formatted and the covers are done, just gotta do things like indicia page and probably some kind of introduction, stuff like that. I’m hoping to have it available by the end of the month.

Oh, hey, and the Beyond Anthology (which, as I’m sure you know, has a 16-page Valley of the Silk Sky short story in it) got a great write-up in the Onion’s AV Club. Read all about it!

VoSS Year 1 and a little bit of Steven Universe fan art

Now that Chapter 4 is all wrapped up, I’m posting the art I did to commemorate Valley of the Silk Sky‘s first year. This is going up a day early here because I’ll be out of town on Wednesday (my regular update day) and there’s not really a great way to schedule this post. So:

I’m very close to finished with Chapter 5. Hoping to wrap up the last of the coloring today. My current thought is to start running Chapter 5 on Feb. 3, though that might get pushed back if Stuff Intervenes (fair warning: Stuff is threatening to Intervene).

Anyway. I also did this Steven Universe fan art of Peridot a couple of weeks ago and am just now getting around to posting it here. It’s also up on the Tumblers if that’s your bag.

The important takeaway here is the Peridot is the best gem.

MEANWHILE, perhaps you’re wondering how chapter 5 is progressing. I am currently in the process of inking, and then it’ll be on to coloring. My goal is to have it ready to go by Feb. 3 (that’s in two weeks), so that’s the tentative start date.

Chapter 5 wraps up Part One. I’m working even now on assembling the digital book for Part One (which so far mostly consists of agonizing over the cover), which I’ll put up on Gumroad for your offline reading pleasure. I also plan to submit VoSS to Comixology, so hopefully they’ll pick it up, but I won’t know anything about that for quite awhile (turnaround on acceptance/rejection is about 3 months, and I won’t even be ready to submit for a couple of weeks).

So! Anyway. That is the Status of Things. Next week I’ll post the Valley of the Silk Sky Year 1 art I did – or you can just pop over to Patreon and look at it right now.

That’ll go up tomorrow, and then I’ll post it here and on the various VoSS feeds once chapter 4 is complete (which shall be VERY SOON INDEED).

Meanwhile, I have this other thing going on:

I updated my Appearances page for 2016. These are the confirmed shows thus far, with more to be added later as confirmations come in.

Meanwhile, in Tales of the Status of Future Chapters, I finished thumbnailing chapter 6 finally, so yay! I’m working on an illustration for a thing, and once that’s done I’ll get to work drawing chapter 5.

Next week Valley of the Silk Sky the Webcomic turns one year old! I started publishing this story on January 14, 2015. Will I maybe do a Year 1 special art post?? MAYBE??? Tune in next week to find out!
