Valley of the Silk Sky queer YA sci-fi comic

Want to read page 74 of Valley of the Silk Sky? You got choices:

This page references some stuff from chapter 1, so if it’s been awhile since you read it, pages 12 and 13 can help you out.

In other VotSS news, I’m about halfway through the pencils for chapter 9. Oh yes! I’m taking advantage of this quiet time of year to pad the ol’ buffer as much as possible.

Also, if I’m to hit my goal of having the Part Two book out by mid-April, I’ll need to have all the art done by end of February at the latest. I believe this is doable, I just have to knuckle down and draw draw draw.

Finishing chapters 9 and 10 will give me a buffer of weekly page updates through about July (this assumes a couple of breaks between chapters to post updates to the Appendicies on the VotSS website, for the edification of world-building nerds such as myself.

Finally, I just wanted to point out a new feature on this here website. Over in the right-hand column (which gets pushed below the main content on mobile), you will now see a “Newest Comic” widget that shows the most recent page I’ve added. This is a quick and easy way to jump to the latest installment of VotSS.

Anyhow, back to work on making more of those installments. See you next week!

Cheers,

Dylan

Valley of the Silk Sky The Long Run
Page 73

It’s Thursday, which means it’s time for another installment of Valley of the Silk Sky. Page 73 is now up, and you can read it here:

Since everyone knows teenagers always make good decisions, you can expect the next page to be the final page of the book. It just says, “And then everything turned out fine. The End.”

SPEAKING OF EVERYTHING TURNING OUT FINE: As I posted on Tuesday, I believe the redesign for Studio NDR is basically done. I’m sure I will find stray bits and pieces that need to be fixed/improved, but these should (in theory) be minor corrections.

So please do have a look around. I added a bunch of comics that hadn’t been collected on here before, and streamlined the content to focus on stronger, more recent work.

Cheers,

Dylan

The first page of chapter 8 is live, and you can read it here:

  1. on Studio NDR
  2. on Tumblr

Since it’s been a good while, you may be wondering, what does it matter where I read it? Well, I’ll tell you.

If you peep it here on Studio NDR, it helps with my view numbers for ad boxes (assuming you don’t have an adblocker enabled). If you prefer Tumblr, you can like and share the comic on there.

At the moment, of course, Studio NDR is a construction zone, with dust and concrete blocks and I beams strewn all over the place. I’m working on reassembling everything into a prettier package, but it’s going to take awhile (as in, a few weeks). So if you would rather have the site you’re reading on be stable and consistent, go to Tumblr for now.

Anyhow. Welcome to Chapter 8, and look for lots of improvements around here in the coming weeks!

Cheers,

Dylan

Valley of the Silk Sky The Long Run Part One

I sold out of the first print run of Valley of the Silk Sky: The Long Run Part One, and for various reasons it turned out to be easiest to reprint through CreateSpace. So that means VotSS is now available for sale on Amazon! This is especially good news if you’re in Europe, since you can now get it from their European distribution centers and won’t have to pay the absurd international shipping rates and duties from the U.S. Woo!

If you already have Part One or are enjoying the webcomic, please do leave a review for me, thx.

And if you’re wondering when the heck I’m ever going to around to chapter 8, I’m about to start penciling it just as soon as I finish this post.

The next convention on the schedule is MALCon Denver, a.k.a. Myths and Legends Con, happening August 4-6. I’ll be tabling with Out in Colorado. I’ll also be on a buttload of panels:

Sat, 9:00 AM-9:50 AM, To Self Pub or Not: Is It Really Easy? (Serenity)
Sat, 10:00 AM-10:50 AM, It Ain’t the Writing, It’s the Rewriting: The Power of Revision (Helms Deep)
Sat, 1:00 PM-1:50 PM, Pitching to the Editor (Nevernever)
Sat, 10:00 PM-10:50 PM, Ow, My Spleen! (The Shire)
Sun, 1:00 PM-1:50 PM, Marketing for Writers (Room of Requirement)

So if you’re in Denver, you should ought come to that, and maybe forgive me if I’m a little loopy on Saturday.

Cheers,

Dylan

What next, you ask?

I need to work on an anthology comic for a bit, so I’m not sure yet when chapter 8 will start. It’s already thumbnailed, though, so hopefully not too terribly long.

In the meantime, I have a new comic up on The Nib as part of a series on trans bathroom stuff. You can read it right now with your very own eyeballs.

As ever, if you want to peek behind the scenes to see works in progress and other goodies, pledge $1 a month (or more, if you like!) to my Patreon.

MEANWHILE. I will be at the ol’ Emerald City Comic Book Symposium this weekend, March 2-5, tabling with Northwest Press once again. You can find us at booth 1719.

I will have a NEW MINICOMIC by jiminy:

QAT Person issue 2 cover

This one contains my trans/ace comic what was published on The Nib last year, and also this one from PEN America, and a couple of sketch comics about my trip to a trans bar in Japan.

Anyhow, ECCC will mark the debut of this mini, so this is your first chance to snag it. I urge you to do so!

I meant to say, evidence? What evidence? I know nothing of any so-called “””evidence”””. [Do NOT seek evidence at these links, there is NO evidence to be found.]

There IS some evidence to suggest I’ll be at the Emerald City Comic Book Concern and Symposium next (!) week. If such a thing were indeed true, I would be found at the Northwest Press booth #1719.

Maybe if you’re going to be in attendance, you should do some sleuthing to find out if, in fact, this lead is legit. Investigate all possible leads!

In non-VotSS news, last night I finished up the thumbnails for an upcoming anthology piece. So that’s two short stories for two different anthologies I’ve thumbnailed in the last month.

One of ’em is for We’re Still Here, the all-trans anthology from Stacked Deck Press, which was officially announced last December.

The other one has not yet been announced, so you’ll have to wait patiently to learn more. But I’m really excited about both stories, so I’ll be sure to keep you updated as to the proceedings.

What’s that? You wanna see the latest EXCITING page of Valley of the Silk Sky? Well, take yer pick o’ venue:

What’s the diff? Tumblr is tumblr, if you’re into tumbling. Also: functions as a standalone website, is mobile-adaptive, has extra content not found elsewhere.

Tapastic is a platform for a bunch of different webcomics, is mobile adaptive, and lets you do fun things like save your place in a story and get notifications when new pages go up. I get a couple pennies of ad revenue from folks who read here. (“Pennies” is not a euphemism for “not much.” I genuinely get maybe a couple cents a day.)

Studio NDR is this site you’re reading this on right now, my “home page” if you will. I get slightly more pennies of ad revenue if you read here. (Again, not a euphemism.) But alas the site is not mobile adaptive and badly needs an overhaul that I don’t have time to perform.

Honestly, whichever of these is most convenient for you is fine. Do as you will!

WHAT INDEED OF THE OTHERS.

Speaking of others, in other(s) news, I am thumbnailing away on a couple of comic scripts for a couple of anthologies. Both are autobio, talkin’ about queer/ace/trans stuff.

More shall be revealed of these projects in due time, but know that they’re happening.
